Our Favorite Austin Restaurant and Bar Openings in 2022

In a city like Austin, there’s always a new restaurant to be tried, a new bar to be tried — each one fighting for the title of being your favorite and hoping for a shot on your IG story. Much like every year in this foodie city, it was a big one for openings in ATX! We’ve listed a few of our favorites that opened in 2022.

In a city like Austin, there’s always a new restaurant to be tried, a new bar to be tried — each one fighting for the title of being your favorite and hoping for a shot on your IG story. Much like every year in this foodie city, it was a big one for openings in ATX! Here are a few of our favorites that opened in 2022:

🍸 Wax Myrtles — opened on February 14, we can confirm that this new spot is an influencer’s dream! This rooftop bar sits on floor 4 of the Thompson Hotel in downtown Austin and serves delicious cocktails with an equally as delicious menu, all with a view! Whether you’re seated inside in the ambient setting, or poolside with a downtown view, the drinks and food are always a hit.

🥃 Whiskey Cake — opened on September 13, this farm-to-table chain has made its way to the Austin suburbs! Don’t let the term “chain” in a city like Austin, Texas persuade you – their menu features regional specialties along with seasonal changes. And did we mention that there is in fact Whiskey Cake?

🍷 Vintage Bookstore and Wine bar — opened on October 15, this vintage wine bar and bookstore excels in coziness. Sip on wines by the glass, local beer, coffee or tea on velvet couches and tufted armchairs. Enjoy baked goods and grazing boxes from Cultured ATX in one of our favorite new additions to the Austin bar scene!

🌮 Salsa Limon — opened on April 27, this Fort Worth favorite made its way to Austin, Texas. Owned by Oaxacan sisters, this taqueria offers a variety of taco meats, salsas, and incredible margaritas. We didn’t know we needed another taco shop in ATX until Salsa Limon!

🥩J-Prime Steakhouse — opened in September, this upscale and contemporary steakhouse sits inside the Whitley apartment high-rise. While the prime steaks and seafood are unbeatable, I am mainly a fan of the tableside top-shelf liquor carts that roam the restaurant. J-Prime made choosing an upscale reservation downtown that much easier.

🍹 Lulu’s — opened on October 14, this Mexico City-inspired bar in South Austin serves a boozy Aguas Frescas along with incredible Palomas. A mother/daughter duo opened this bar together, and you can tell by the trendy yet cozy atmosphere inside. In a city with a million bars, Lulu’s stands out from the crowd.
